DARK AND DISTANT SHORE
I am sailing
Sailing o’er the sea
I’m sailing
I want you to be with me
Can you hear me
Through the clamour and the roar
Can you see me
From your dark and distant shore
You are waiting
Waiting there for me
Anticipating
Life alone with me
Can you see me
Through the fog of war
Can you see me
From your far and distant shore
We are standing
Here arm in arm
I will keep you
Keep you from harm
I’ll be with you
You needn’t ask for more
I am with you
On that dark and distant shore.
ONLY BELIEVE
Only believe
That it can happen
Only believe
It can be true
Only believe
These things will happen
Only believe
That I love you
Only believe
It will get better
Only believe
My words to you
Only believe
Good times are coming
Only believe
That I love you
Only believe
The things I tell you
Only believe
That they’ll come true
Only believe
That you love me
Only believe
That I love you.
ONCE THERE WAS A TIME
Once there was a time
When we were lovers
Once there was a time
When we weren’t sad
Once there was a day
When we were happy
Once there was a day
When things weren’t bad
You
Will always be an angel to me
An angel to me
And I love you
You
Will always be an angel to me
An angel to me
Can’t you see
Once there was a time
When you loved me
Once there was a time
When we were free
Once there was a night
I took you to me
Once there was a night
We were happy
You
Will always be an angel to me
An angel to me
And I love you
You
Will always be an angel to me
An angel to me
Can’t you see
Once there was a time
I loved tomorrow
Once there was a time
I had no fear
Once there was a time
And things got better
Once there was a time
Heaven was here.
TAKE ME TO THE RIVER
Take me to the river
Wash away my sins
Because I am a believer
This is where my life begins
Take me to the river
Wash away my pain
Because I am a believer
I’ve got to try again
Take me to the river
Wash away my cares
Because I’m a believer
Can you hear my prayers
Take me to the river
Wash away the fears
Because I’m a believer
Lord take away my fears.
TAKE ME TO THE COUNTRY
Take me to the country
Turn my face to the sun
Lie down by the water
Watch the river run
Take me back to old days
Of earth and flowers and trees
Take me to the country
Let me be at ease
I have lived in the city
For about ten long years
I’ve grown and loved and lived and cried
Faced up to my fears
But now the time has come at last
And I’ve cast away my pain
Take me to the country
Let me live again.
AND ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE
So one night I said to Kathy
We gotta get away somehow
Go somewhere south and somewhere warm
But for God’s sake let’s go now
And Kathy she sort of looks at me
And asks where I want to go
And I look back and hear me say
I don’t care but we gotta go
So in LA we bought a bus
Sort of old and not too smart
For six hundred and fifty bucks
And we go out and made a start
We hit the road down to the south
And drove down into Mexico
That old bus was some old wreck
But it kept us on the road
And now we’ve stopped our travels
And we sold the bus in Texas
And we made our home in Austin
And for sure it ain’t a palace
So Kathy and me we settled down
And now our first kids on the way
Kathy and me and that old bus
We did real good to get away
And all the other people
Who sleepwalk thru their days
Just sort of faded out of sight
When we two went away
And ev’ry day we travelled
We were looking to get wise
We learned about what matters
And we learned to see the lies.
BORN AND RAISED IN THE US OF A
They don’t like any yanks
There never gonna give us thanks
We try to clear the bad guys out
And all they do is hate and shout
When we give them food and aid
We never ask to be paid
I never cease to bless the day
I was born and raised in the US of A
Bad guys come and bad guys go
But I know something they don’t know
They might shout and bomb and kill
But they’ll never break our iron will
These guys just wont listen to me
They’ll never stop the land of the free
Here we are and here we’ll stay
Glad to be in the US of A
It all comes down, in the end,
To looking out for your old friends
Some try to push us to the wall
But you know we’ll beat them all
In the home of the good and the land of the brave
We know who we’re gonna save
If you’re against us you’d better pray
That we stay in the US of A.
COME TAKE MY HAND
Come take my hand
I don’t know your name
And I’ll take you where
The streets have no name
Come open your eyes
Things are not the same
Come feel the heat
And the streets share the flame
Come travel through time
Come play my game
Come dance with me
Come see the shame
Come and rejoice
Be free of the pain
All things must pass
In the streets of no name.
ALL THE NIGHT LONG
The nigh times
Are the hard times
When I try to be strong
But I try
And I cry
All the night long
The day times
Are the wrong times
When I see what went wrong
But I try
And I cry
All the night long
In the morning
Through the dawning
I hear again your song
And I try
But I cry
All the night long
In the evening
I’m still grieving
But I don’t belong
So I try
And I cry
All the night long.
WILLOW WAY
Come here girl
Don’t go away
Don’t go down
The Willow Way
Don’t sell yourself
Against the wall
Hear me girl
Don’t go at all
It sounds so good
To stay in bed
And take the stuff
With your head
But can’t you see
You sell your soul
Just understand
You lose it all
I’ve seen you there
On the street
Once the world was
At your feet
So don’t go down
The Willow Way
Stay with me
Don’t go away.
YOU SAID IT WAS OVER
You said it was over
That we could still be friends
You were my perfect lover
And I didn’t want it to end
You said it had ended
That you loved me no more
Then smiled and gently kissed me
And walked out the door
You told me that you loved me
In a very special way
But I don’t like this new love
That pushes me away
You told me that you’d see me
Now and then on the street
And wasn’t this a good idea
A better way to meet
I told you that I agreed
But the ice was in my heart
How could I love without you
How could we be apart
I told you I’d been thinking
Along the self same lines
But I never saw it coming
I never saw the signs
And now another years gone by
And I don’t see you at all
Do you ever think of me
Will you give me a call
And the funny thing about this
As the years slip slowly by
Is I never quite recovered
From my first big lie
I always loved you.
THEY DON’T KNOW
They don’t know
How much I care
They don’t know
It isn’t fair
They don’t know
I’ve gotta go
They don’t know
I love you so
They don’t care
That I cry
They don’t care
When you lie
They don’t care
They don’t know
They don’t care
I love you so
They don’t see
What I see
They don’t see
What you mean to me
They don’t see
I have to go
They don’t see
And they don’t know.
WHO KNOWS
I see the birds
As they fly south
Like the lies
From your mouth
I see my love
Slipping away
Who knows when
You’ll go away
I hear the words
Like arrows fly
One for the heart
One for the eye
I hear my prayers
Just fade and die
Every time
I hear you lie.
TWO ON A TRAIN
Two on a train
Holding hands
Passing through
Foreign lands
Two together
Through the past
Travelling time
Flying fast
Two on a train
Two in a town
Without a name
Have no home
Two together
Passing days
Walk the beach
Swim the waves
Two on a road
Without an end
See no harm
With you my friend
Two together
Into the night
Cling together
Do what’s right
Two in the sunsets
Of golden days
Gentle times
And gentle ways
Two together
Two to share
Two to love
Two to care
And so they’ve gone
The happy days
Two no more
Gone separate ways
Two together
Only in dreams
Faded like
Old sunbeams.
HERE COMES YOUR LOVER
Here comes your lover
Here comes your knight
I’m like no other
Always do it right
Here comes your hero
Here through the door
Here is the man
Who’ll give you more
Here comes the night
Here comes the thrill
Here comes the hunter
Home from the hill
Here comes the sunshine
Here comes the light
Here comes your lover
Here comes the night
Here comes the start
Here comes the end
More than a lover
More than a friend
Here comes the love
Mysterious ways
Here comes the love
To lighten our days.
LOVE A STRANGER
I walk the streets
I stalk the town
No one knows
When I’m around
I do no harm
It does me good
I never shed
A drop of blood
Everyones looking
They don’t see the danger
I know the girls
Who’ll love a stranger
I know the look
In her eye
I know the way
She don’t try
And I need her
Like she needs me
And our loving
Sets us both free
Everyones looking
They don’t see the danger
I know the girls
Who’ll love a stranger
I don’t have bonds
I don’t have ties
But I’ve got
A strangers eyes
Girls just you
Look at me
Take my love
And set me free.
